Runescape Mining

Mining - The Basics

Introduction

Mining is the skill in which you extract ores from rocks. These ores can be smelted into bars and smithed into useful items such as armour and weapons. See the Smithing section of the manual for more details.

Before you are able to start mining, you will need to acquire a key piece of equipment commonly known as the pickaxe.

Initially, you will only be able to use a Bronze Pickaxe, available for purchase at Bob’s Axe shop in Lumbridge, respawn points in Rimmington, Barbarian village and in some General Stores across RuneScape. As your skill increases you will find yourself able to wield pickaxes of a higher quality, making it far easier for you to mine.

Runescape Free World

The Free World in Runescape offers access to about one quarter of its whole site.

Quick info from the Runscape knowledge base.

Player controls

The player options button [image] allows you to control your character's behaviour.

[image]The Move speed option allows you to select whether your character walks or runs.

You will have to use this feature if you are trying to get away from something that is attacking you.

The two lines on the right of this option display the Energy level of your character and how much weight your character is carrying. The more items in your inventory and what your character has equipped, the more weight they will be carrying.

If you set move speed to 'Run', then each time your character moves, they will run. However, running reduces your character's energy level. Your character can only run as long as the energy level is more than 0%. When it gets to 0%, your character's move speed will automatically be changed to walk.

Weight also affects your energy. If you are carrying lots of heavy items, your total weight will be increased, making your energy decrease even faster if you try to run. Your run energy will recharge slowly if you stop running. It recharges faster if you have a high agility level. Some potions and foods can also restore run energy.

If you press the 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard whilst clicking, your character will run to the place you clicked on instead of walking there, even if you have the move speed option set to 'Walk'.

After Tutorial Island

Once off of Tutorial Island, do yourself a favor and talk to the Lumbridge Guide. Read all he has to talk about, but especially the information about where to find a bank. As a new player with very few belongings, you want to protect your belongings by banking everything you don't need to be carrying around with you. Even as a high level player, I keep my inventory small and focused on the specific task at hand.

Visit the bank in Draynor Village, following the directions the Guide offered you, and stow away everything but your bronze axe. Whatever you do, don't go into battle until you've stowed away your items! Without money you can't purchase replacements, and NOBODY likes beggars. It's important to be self-sufficient and that includes being able to go on without great pain if you die and lose everything you were carrying.

Now your inventory is ready to be filled with logs that you can store in the bank until you can find a player willing to buy the logs. And for 100 logs, you should be able to get 3,000-5,000 coins! That kind of money will be great for buying armor for your upcoming battles.

You're off to a great start!
